This illuminated manuscript-style typographic treatment for the song Ocean Floor by my good friends The Denouement is my first attempt at a complete custom typeface. I’m still missing a lot of characters so it might not make it to full fledged typeface status but it sure was a great learning experience. The letters were designed in Illustrator and then the headline was hand drawn and scanned. The most challenging part (after designing and drawing the letters) was all of the letter spacing (kerning) and line spacing (tracking) that had to be done manually because the computer can’t tell the difference between my “letters” and any other shapes. (At full size it’s a clunky 48pt/50pt if you were interested).
